In the meantime, two other more important awards have been won: In November 2017 the JEC Innovation Award at the “JEC Asia”, an inter- national composite material event in the ca- tegory Transport and the “Innovation Award for Hazardous Goods”, which was awarded in May 2018 at the 28th Munich Hazardous Goods Convention. The numerous awards are certain- ly justified: Omni Willig Carbon GmbH, a joint ven- ture between Kurt Willig GmbH & Co. KG and Omni Tanker Pty. Ltd. of Australia succeeded with CFRP tanks in finding a technical or logi- stical solution for handling hazardous goods. In a patented manufacturing process, PE (po- lyethylene) and CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) are combined to form a particularly resistant, yet lightweight material. The CFRP tanks are versatile and significantly optimise the effective load, as they are considerably lighter than the existing steel and glass fibre reinforced technologies on the market. In ad- dition, CFRP tanks, for example, have a high chemical resistance when transporting corro- sive chemicals and have a long service life. The transport of dangerous goods or liquid goods is thus safer and at the same time more economical. These tanks are the first CFRP tanks that have been approved according to ADR Chapter 6.9. Since March 2018, WILLIG has had a revamped online presence.
